A team game that runs on a whiteboard
The brief
The Collaboration Game is a facilitated team game I designed for MindTools — working with Edinburgh University and Data for Children — built to run entirely on a Miro board. Players take on roles from a real project team, from an NGO challenge owner to a private sector partner, and work through eight scenario cards together. Every decision shifts the project's budget, quality and time trackers, and the team's relationship score sits underneath it all: let the mood turn sour and it's game over. It's a playful way to get colleagues arguing productively about priorities and seeing a project through each other's eyes.
My job was to make a remote whiteboard feel like a proper board game. I designed the full visual system: the game board with its winding track and project health abacus, three suits of scenario and side quest cards, a set of illustrated player characters, individual player spaces, and the identity itself, with its speech-bubble logo and bold primary palette. The bright, friendly style does real work here, since it lowers the stakes of some fairly pointed conversations about compromise and keeps a two-hour workshop feeling like play.
